From cramped spaces to charming Villa: The Magical Restyling of Emanuela Miani’s Casale Ortali

In the Umbrian countryside, where every hillside tells stories of ancient times and traditions, a century-old farmhouse has found new life thanks to the skillful hand of Interior Designer Emanuela Miani. Known for her ability to transform complex spaces into luxurious environments that respect the soul of the place, Miani took on one of her greatest challenges: renovating a farmhouse that featured small and cramped spaces, transforming it into a haven of elegance and comfort.

The farmhouse, located near a small hamlet of Todi, was initially dark with small rooms. Low wooden beams, thick stone walls and a cramped interior layout posed a maze of difficulties for anyone who wanted to bring modernity and functionality to such an ancient structure. But Emanuela saw beyond these limitations, envisioning a place where natural light, greenery and elegance could coexist.

Miani’s design started with a clear vision: every space, no matter how small, had to tell a story and offer an experience.

  • Windows were inserted or enlarged where possible, and some attics were removed to visually expand spaces.
  • The wooden beams and stone have been retained, but treated with modern techniques to enhance their natural beauty.
  • With a redesigned layout, the living area opens up to the greenery through large windows, while the bedrooms have become oases of tranquility, thanks to light colors and minimal but elegant furnishings.
  • The exterior has been transformed into a green oasis with aromatic plants hugging the walls, providing not only a fragrant touch but also a natural extension of the interior.

The final result is a farmhouse that feels larger than it originally was, where every inch was designed to offer comfort and beauty. Emanuela has not only overcome the critical issues of small spaces but has created an environment that invites contemplation and relaxation, while maintaining the authenticity of an Italian country house. This project proves that with the right vision and skill, even the biggest challenges can be turned into opportunities to create something unique. Emanuela Miani has proven once again that design is not just about aesthetics but about how to live in harmony with spaces, even those deemed irretrievable. The Ortali farmhouse today, is not just a house; it is a living work of art, a testament to the power of intelligent renovation.Today the property is managed exclusively by the Miani Group and is available for seasonal rentals. Also recently completed was the renovation of the outbuilding and small annex with a total capacity of 16 beds.
